Former President John Mahama urged the chiefs and traditional leaders of Ghana to maintain fairness and balance in their condemnation of politicians, and to greet President Nana Akufo Addo when he becomes President, not Dissuade them.

The standard-bearer of the National Congress of Democracy (NDC) believes that the chiefs of Ghana found their voices of blame only when their political parties were in power, and that they lost their voices when the ruling New Patriotic Party took power.

Mr. Mahama spoke at the chief and people of Jinijini in Berekum West constituency in Bono region on Monday, September 28, 2020. He said that since President Akufo Addo took office, his administration is full of electoral violence, intimidation, and panic , Discriminated, shut down critics of his radio stations paralyzed, killed reporters, stifled press freedom, and allowed his friends and family to participate in corrupt transactions such as the “Ajapa Royalty Agreement” and the now botched PDS power contract.

Mr. Mahama wanted to know why the chiefs and traditional leaders of Ghana turned a blind eye when the President committed such violations to the people of Ghana.

“So, Nanonom, we are all your children.”

“And every parent knows which of his children is the troublemaker, and’patapaa’ is a child”.

Mr. Mahama said directly to the traditional leader: “However, usually you will blame you, and we all accept your suggestions, but now it is time for you to speak up for the maker.”

Mr. Mahama continued: “Nana, you are the custodian of our land”.

“Before Western democracy, you were the guardian and ruler.”

“So when something goes wrong, you have the opportunity to talk.”

“However, usually, when one of your children ascends to the throne, you cannot punish him for fear of doing so.”

“But as soon as your other child ascends to the throne, you will hear people asking:’Where is the wise man in our land?”

“Everyone criticizes him. But once they make a mistake, they must punish the two children in a balanced way.”
