War of words between Ghana and Nigeria unnecessary – Ablakwa

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a former deputy education minister and member of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, said that the war of words between the government and the Nigerian government is unnecessary.

The Nigerian government issued a statement on Friday accusing the Ghanaian government of harassment and abuse of Ghanaian citizens.

The report pointed out that although Ghanaians are in Nigeria, their daily activities have not been harassed in any form, but the Ghanaian government has not replicated although the two countries share a common bond.

However, the Ghanaian government, through the Minister of Information, refuted the Nigerian government’s claims, stating that Ghana respects its relations with the Republic of Nigeria and will not harass its citizens. It is necessary now, and secret actions should be taken to resolve the existing problems between the two countries.

He pointed out that there are many risks in the relationship between Nigeria and Ghana, risking any form of escalation in the current way of dealing with the problem.

He wrote in a tweet on the issue: “The war of words between Ghanaians and senior Nigerian officials is not the way to go. The most urgent thing is to silence through diplomatic channels behind the scenes. There are too many long-term cooperative relations between Ghana and Nigeria. It may escalate the risk.”
