Freddie Blay, the national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says he is pleased with the contributions he made to his party while in office.

He claimed that he would step down from his position as national chairperson with pride because he had given it his all.

“I value the interactions individuals have had with me. Some people have encouraged me, while others have unavoidably criticized me in an effort to make me appear better and occasionally much worse.

“I would be pleased to be called the former chairman, without a doubt. What we have accomplished will be better judged by history, he said on Tuesday, according to Citi News in Accra.

Mr. Blay helped the NPP win the elections in 2016 and 2020 while serving as national chairman from 2015 to 2022.

At the delegates’ meeting scheduled for July 15–17 at the Accra Sports Stadium, he will not be running for re-election.

Prior to the 2024 elections, the candidates for the National Executive will compete for the right to fill party administration positions.

The party published a list of candidates who were declared suitable to run at the National Delegates Conference after a thorough screening process in June.

Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, and Akwasi Osei Adjei are three prominent candidates vying to succeed Mr. Blay as the nation’s chairman.
