Sarah Adwoa Safo has been fired as the minister of gender, children, and social protection by President Akufo-Addo with immediate effect.

This was stated in a press release sent out by the administration on Thursday, July 28 and signed by Eugene Arhin, director of communications.

The statement claims that President Akufo-Addo did this in accordance with Article 81(a) of the 1992 Constitution.

A portion of the statement read, “With immediate effect, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, revokes the appointment of Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, as Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection in accordance with Article 81(a) of the Constitution.”

According to the announcement, “Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, will continue to serve as the Caretaker Minister until President Akufo-Addo names a substantive Minister.”

Earlier today, Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, postponed making a decision regarding Sarah Adwoa Safo’s future as a Dome-Kwabenya MP.

After listening to arguments from both sides of the House on Thursday, Alban Bagbin said that he will give the House a written decision with reasons at the following meeting.

After many attempts by the Committee to contact Sarah Adwoa Safo, she did not come before the Committee to explain why she had been absent for more than fifteen sittings.

Following its meeting, the Committee presented its findings to the full House, recommending that the MP’s seat be declared vacant.
