US asks for ‘humane treatment’ for Hotel Rwanda hero

Rwandan officials said that Mr Rusesabagina, 66, was arrested internationally for leading a “terrorist campaign.”

But his daughter told the BBC that this accusation was wrong.

After meeting with Ambassador Matilde Mukantabana, Najib tweeted that the US government hopes that Rwanda “provides humane treatment for Mr Lucesa Bagina, observes the rule of law, and provides fair and transparent legal procedures.”

Mr Rusesabagina is also a Belgian citizen and an American green cardholder. His family told the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) that he left his hometown last Thursday and landed in San Antonio, Texas.

His daughter told the BBC: “We believe he was kidnapped because he will never go to Rwanda according to his wishes.”

The Rwandan government did not comment on the allegations that Mr Rusesabagina was kidnapped.
