Tensions in the town of Nkrankwanta in the Bono region after a clash between supporters of Ghana’s two largest political parties resulted in the death of a person. Two people are said to have suffered gunshot wounds in the incident on Saturday and are being treated at Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital. The images shared on social media captured at least two cars and a motorcycle that was razed to the ground. According to the “Daily Graphic” report, the incident occurred during the election commission’s raid on voter registration exercises, when the shooting incident was killed.
It is not yet clear how the melee started, but a man identified as Kofi Labato, a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party, was declared dead when he was taken to the Domar
Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital. Mr. Ali Maiga Halidu, Congressman of West Dormaa, told the Daily Pictorial that the deceased was hit by a bullet fired by security personnel deployed at the scene.
Ghana seeks to compile a new voter list before the December 7, 2020 general election. The feature is that violence has
resulted in casualties and property damage. For example, in the eastern constituency of Avutusenia in the central region, clashes between supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party and the opposition National Congress of Democracy almost ended the registration center process. Cabinet Minister and Member of the Region Koomson admitted to shooting at the scene. Her move was widely condemned because there are still calls for President Akufo-Addo to terminate the appointment.
