Starting Monday, November 16, children between the ages of 5-12 must enter Kotoka International Airport for free and undergo mandatory COVID-19 screening.

However, children under five (5) years of age are exempt from the test. All others outside this age group must pay $150 for the antigen test performed by Frontier Health Care in the upper arrival hall of Kia Terminal 3.

The latest Kotoka International Airport COVID-19 guidelines issued by Ghana Airports Limited on Friday stated: “Children between 5 and 12 years old will be tested for free on arrival.”

The reason for the decision to include children in the age range was the increase in positive cases among incoming passengers at Kia Airport and the general population.

The screening of all arriving passengers revealed that imported COVID-19 cases increased by 87%, from 92 to 172 between mid-October and November 6.

As of November 6, a total of 54,000 arriving international passengers have been screened and 172 positive cases have been recorded.

Ghana closed for six months on September 1 and implemented a strict testing system, thereby reopening Kotoka International Airport for regular passenger operations.

Upon arrival, passengers who need to pay a $150 COVID-19 test fee online before arriving in Ghana must verify the receipt before proceeding to the sampling room located at the upper entrance of Kia Terminal 3 for sampling.

The results are sent electronically to Port Health in the main arrival hall.

In the arrival hall, passengers at one of the port health stations will be checked and informed of the results of the COVID-19 test.

Passengers who arrive at a negative test result will continue to enter the country, enter the baggage check-in area to collect their luggage, and then leave the terminal.

Positive cases will receive further clinical evaluation and treatment.
