Jose Mourinho’s Roma new head coach

Jose Mourinho has not wasted any time in finding himself a new job after being relieved of his duties at Tottenham as he has agreed to take the reins at Roma.

The Portuguese parted company with Tottenham on April 19 and was only saying this week that he would take time over his next move.

I’ll wait to be back in football. Not just for the right club, but for the right culture. Maybe next season is premature, we will see,” he said in an interview with The Times.

However, just days later, Serie A side Roma have announced the 58-year-old as their new head coach for the 2020/21 campaign on a three-year deal, with the added announcement that Paulo Fonseca would be leaving the club at the end of this season.

I thank the Friedkin family for choosing me to lead this great club and for making me part of their vision,” said Mourinho on Tuesday.

“After comparing myself with the owners and with Tiago Pinto, I immediately understood how high the ambition of this club is. This aspiration and this drive are the same ones that have always motivated me and together we want to build a winning path in the years to come.

“The incredible passion of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I can’t wait to start next season. At the same time, I wish Paulo Fonseca the best of luck and ask the media to understand that I will only make statements in due course. Daje Roma!”
