The Ghana Card will replace the Taxpayer Identification Number of individuals provided by the Ghana Revenue Authority for tax identification purposes as of today, April 1, 2021.

This move is in line with the government’s strategy of using a unique identifier for all transactions that include an individual’s identification.

The GRA said in a statement that registration officials from the National Identification Authority are currently stationed at 14 GRA offices across the country to register individuals who do not have a Ghana card to ensure a smooth rollout of the initiative.

The Registrar General’s Department in Accra, the Adabraka Taxpayer Service Center in Accra, the Asokwa Taxpayer Service Center in Kumasi, the Wa Taxpayer Service Center, and the Cape Coast Taxpayer Service Center are among them.

The NIA would ultimately station registration officials at 63 other GRA locations to accommodate all taxpayers.

The statement also claimed that from April 1st, 2021 to December 31st, 2021, both the TIN and the Ghana Card PIN will be used as the unique number for tax identification purposes during the transition period.

After this time, all existing TINs are supposed to be replaced with the Ghana Card PIN.

Established taxpayers who have registered and been issued with a Ghana card can now connect their Ghana card PIN to their TIN via a Self-Service portal on the GRA website.

Furthermore, to be recognized as a taxpayer, any taxpayer with a Ghana card must show it at any GRA office.

According to the GRA, the Ghana card PIN should be quoted on Application Forms, Returns, and Schedules – supporting the transactions – for transactions such as filing returns, paying taxes, clearing products, and registering companies.
