The Akufo-Addo administration has come under harsh criticism from former president John Mahama, who blames the current economic scenario on the government’s unwillingness to show repentance and sobriety in the face of the crisis.
He blamed the escalating debt problem on careless election-related spending, poor management, incompetence, and an absence of effective leadership on the part of the current economic leadership.
At the retreat’s closing ceremony, Mr. Mahama, the leader of the Minority Caucus in Parliament, claimed that the governing party had shown that it was unable to deal with Ghana’s economic situation.
“Our current financial condition is the result of careless election-related spending, poor management, incompetence, and a lack of competent leadership. Shifting blame is the gravest example of irresponsibility, and irresponsible leaders are not worthy of the people’s trust.
It bears emphasizing that none of the lengthy lists of justifications he provided for where we are is appropriate, he added. “I have recently refuted, based on facts and data, the incorrect attributions made for our economic troubles.
His remarks come in response to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s assertions that in 2017, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) left the government with a failing economy.
