Deputy Minister hands over site for development of 300 hectares valley for rice production

Mr. Sagre Bambage, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, handed over 300 farmland in Kojope, a suburb of Busunu in Gonja, western Savannah, for the development of rice production valleys.

This area was developed by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture under the Savannah Regional Agricultural Productivity Improvement Project (SAPIP) to support the government’s flagship program: the Food and Agriculture Program, and was funded by the African Development Bank.

When handing over the contract documents to the contractor, the minister revealed that the import of rice will be a challenge for COVID-19. Therefore, the government has formulated a rice production strategy to increase the country’s potential.

He said that the overall goal of the project (in addition to the other three projects) is to change the agricultural value chain, achieve food and nutrition security, create employment and wealth, and increase farmers’ income through agricultural productivity and diversification.

The Minister encouraged farmers to use the project after it was completed.

He urged community members to support contractors and advised contractors to use local labor as much as possible
