Club looking at Arsenal defender for ‘a couple of seasons’ – ‘Has a cost of €15m’

With an ageing Aleksandr Kolarov and Leonardo Spinazzola at left-back, Paulo Fonseca would ideally like a mini revamp in the role. That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport are suggesting on Wednesday, claiming AS Roma have turned their attention to Arsenal’s Sead Kolašinac.

We say ‘turned their attention’, but the Italian newspaper explain the Italian side have been following the former Schalke man for ‘a couple of seasons’ now.

Unlike some of his teammates, the 27-year-old was still of use for Mikel Arteta towards the end of the campaign, albeit filling in at centre-back rather than in his more natural position.Either way, with two years left on his contract and Kieran Tierney as competition, there isn’t a rush to get rid, but signing him also wouldn’t be that expensive.

Gazzetta explain he ‘has a cost of around €15m’, which seems affordable for the Italian side, and is at an age that ‘matches’ the limits set by the club to potentially make an ‘expensive economical investment’ on the transfer market.

If Roma can’t get Kolašinac, then the alternative would be Sporting CP’s Marcos Acuña, for whom the Portuguese want ’the exact same amount as’ the Arsenal defender.

That’s €15m if you weren’t following.
